About Lauren Streicher, MD

Lauren Streicher, MD is a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, a certified menopause practitioner of The Menopause Society, and the founding Medical Director of the Northwestern Medicine Center for Sexual Medicine and Menopause. She is a Senior Research Fellow of the Kinsey Institute of Indiana University and the Medical Director of Patient Education and Community Outreach for Midi Health.

In addition to her academic appointment at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Dr. Streicher is on the faculty of Northwestern University’s Graduate Program in Reproductive Science and Medicine for students pursuing a Master of Science degree in medical research.She is also the Faculty Advisor for The Medical Student Forum on Female Sexual Dysfunction, an organization to facilitate Chicago area medical students to collaborate, learn, and educate their academic peers about female sexual medicine. Dr. Streicher serves on many advisory boards including The Kinsey Institute, Let’s Talk Menopause, Let’s All Talk Menopause, Tell, LUWI, and Midi Health.

She is a best-selling author and has written multiple books including The Essential Guide to Hysterectomy, and Sex Rx: Hormones, Health, and Your Best Sex EverInside Informationa series of books about menopause launched in 2021 and includes Slip Sliding Away: Turning Back the Clock on Your Vagina and Hot Flash Hell: A Gynecologist’s Guide to Turning Down the Heat. Her next book, Put the O Back into Mojo: A Post Menopause Guide to Orgasm is scheduled to be released in 2024.  In 2022 Dr. Streicher launched Dr. Streicher’s Inside Information Podcast: Menopause, Midlife, and More. Dr. Streicher writes regular columns for Prevention Magazine, and The Ethel by AARP. She has been invited as a guest author for many magazines and websites. 

Dr. Streicher is routinely interviewed as a reliable, accurate source for national publications such as The New York Times, Newsweek, the Associated Press, and dozens of magazines. She writes regularly for Prevention magazine, and The Ethel from AARP. Dr. Streicher was the 2019 recipient of the North American Menopause Society Media Award and has been honored with numerous other recognitions, including annual inclusion on Castle Connolly’s Top Doctor Listing. Dr. Streicher is the medical correspondent for Chicago’s top-rated news program, the WGN Morning News, and has appeared multiple times on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN, NPR, Dr. Radio, Nightline, Fox and Friends, The Steve Harvey Show, CBS This Morning, ABC News Now, NBC Nightly News, 20/20, and World News Tonight.

In addition to her consumer books and articles, she has authored multiple scientific publications and book chapters. She serves on the Editorial Board of Menopause, the journal of The Menopause Society. Dr. Streicher is a recognized expert in gynecology among her peers and is routinely invited to give lectures at medical conferences both nationally and internationally. She is a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a member of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America, Inc., and The International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health. She has been honored with numerous other recognitions and has been elected by her peers annually since 2002 for inclusion on Castle Connolly’s Top Doctor Listing

Prior to her current positions, Dr. Streicher founded Obstetric and Gynecologic Specialists of Northwestern SC, a private practice devoted to the care of women throughout the lifecycle. After her practice was acquired by the University of Chicago, Dr. Streicher was recruited by Northwestern Medicine to develop The Northwestern Medicine Center for Sexual Medicine and Menopause, which included specific programs to address vulvar-vaginal conditions, sexual function, bone health, and menopause. While there are other academic centers for sexual medicine and menopause, Northwestern’s program was the first to have an on-site multidisciplinary collaborative team including physicians from multiple specialties, advanced practice nurses, certified sex therapists, and pelvic floor physical therapists. 

On an international basis, Dr. Streicher worked remotely to support Kenyan physicians at the African Infectious Disease Village Clinic, Mbirikani Group Ranch. In addition to consulting on difficult cases, she helped design an operating theater and obstetric ward. She traveled to Kenya as a visiting professor to train the medical staff, oversee the hiring of new medical personnel, and launch a new obstetric ward and surgical theater.

Inside Informationis a series of books about the specific symptoms of menopause. The first book in the series, Slip, Sliding Away: Turning Back the Clock on Your Vagina, is a solution-driven guide about all of the hormonal and non-hormonal options to alleviate your vulvar, vaginal, and urinary symptoms that result from a lack of estrogen.  The second book  Hot Flash Hell, A Gynecologist’s Guide to Turning Down the Heat is a comprehensive book about  what to expect, how to know if you are in perimenopause or menopause, the impact of hot flashes not just on quality of life, but also length of life.  Hot Flash Hell includes pros and cons of all of the hormonal and non-hormonal options to alleviate those all-day, all-night surges of heat.
